Frequently Asked Questions
What material do you use? Each piece is made primarily in recycled sterling silver or vermeil, with occasional pieces in gold. Stones and pearls are selected for their natural beauty and character — favourites include pearls, sapphire, lapis lazuli, tourmaline, citrine and opal. The lace, trims and ornamental textiles used in each piece have been collected over time, sourced for their texture, delicacy and history..
How is each piece made? Each piece begins with vintage lace or fabric, which is waxed and formed into a wearable shape before being cast in metal using the lost wax technique. From there, every piece is finished and polished entirely by hand in my East London studio. The process is slow and deliberate — guided by touch and attention at every stage.
What is lost wax casting?Lost wax casting is an ancient metalworking technique where a wax model is encased in plaster, then heated so the wax melts away — leaving a perfect hollow mould. Molten metal is then poured in to create the final piece. It's one of the oldest forms of metal casting in the world, and ideal for capturing the finest details of lace and textile.
What is vermeil?Vermeil (pronounced ver-may) is sterling silver with a layer of gold applied over it. It has the warmth and richness of gold with the quality and integrity of silver underneath.
How do I find my ring size?My rings are made in standard UK sizes. If you're unsure of your size, the easiest way is to visit a local jeweller who can measure your finger quickly and for free. You can also find printable ring sizing guides online — just make sure to measure at the end of the day when fingers are at their largest.
Are the pieces one of a kind? Most pieces are one of a kind. Because each starts with a unique fragment of vintage lace or textile, and every piece is finished by hand, no two pieces can ever be exactly the same. Some designs are made in small limited runs, but even within those, natural variation in the materials and the handfinishing means each piece retains its own individual character.
Can you make a ring in my exact size?Yes — if you're ordering a commission or a bespoke piece, I can make your ring to your exact size. Just get in touch and we can discuss the details.
What makes you different?Every piece begins with something that already has a life — carefully chosen materials, lace, textiles and found fragments, preserved permanently in recycled silver, vermeil or gold. Every thread, void and tension captured in metal. Nothing printed or simulated.
Each piece is finished entirely by hand, and because every material is unique, no two pieces can ever be exactly the same. You are not buying a product. You are buying an object that holds memory.
What size are the bracelets? My bracelets are generally one size, designed to fit most wrists comfortably. If you have any concerns about fit before purchasing, feel free to contact me and I'll be happy to help.
Can necklace lengths be adjusted?Necklaces are made at a fixed length as shown on the website. However if you'd like a similar piece made to a different length, this is possible as a commission — just get in touch and we can discuss what you have in mind.
